Questions painters ask about the plan

Straight answers, including the ones about the minimum term and what we can't promise. If yours isn't here, ask it on a call.

The plan and the price

What do I get for NZ$269 a month?

A website for your painting business, built from the content you supply and live within 14 days of us receiving it. The monthly fee covers hosting, the SSL certificate, security updates, up to 5 content edits a month and a monthly report of the enquiries your website received.

Is there a setup fee?

Yes, a one-off setup fee of NZ$549. It pays for building the site. There are no other fees on the plan. Work outside the plan, such as a new feature, is quoted first and only charged if you agree.

Do the prices include GST?

Prices are shown without GST and the price label reads "GST may apply". A business only charges GST once it is registered, and registration is required when turnover reaches $60,000 in 12 months. If GST applies when we invoice you, it is added and shown on the invoice.

How long is the minimum term?

12 months from the day your site goes live. The setup fee and the monthly fee pay for the build and running of the site across that first year, which is why the plan has a minimum term.

What happens after 12 months?

The plan carries on month to month at the same fee. Either of us can end it with written notice before the next billing date, and it finishes at the end of the month already paid for. If the fee ever changes, you get at least 30 days’ written notice first.

Can I cancel during the minimum term?

You can end the plan at any time with written notice, but the monthly fees for the rest of the minimum term remain payable. That doesn’t apply if you end it because we seriously breached the terms and didn’t fix the problem within 14 days of you telling us.

Who is the plan for?

Painting and decorating businesses in New Zealand, from sole-trader house painters to commercial contractors. It is sold to businesses only, not to individuals for personal use.

Building your site

How long does it take to get my site live?

Your site goes live within 14 days of us receiving everything on the content checklist. If something is missing we tell you what, and the 14 days start once it arrives.

What do I need to supply?

Your business details, the services you offer, the suburbs and towns you cover, photos of your work, any prices you want shown, your logo if you have one, and access to your domain. The content checklist on the How it works page lists everything.

Do you write the words for my site?

No. Writing your content isn’t part of the plan. The checklist asks simple questions about your business, and you can answer them in your own words, even as rough notes. We lay your words out on the pages and keep your meaning.

I don’t have a logo. Is that a problem?

No. Logo design isn’t included, but the site can show your business name in plain type until you have a logo. When you get one, adding it is one content edit.

I already have a domain and an old website. Can I keep them?

You keep your domain and point it at the new site. Text and photos from your old site can be reused if they belong to your business. We don’t move the old site’s design across.

Who owns the domain name?

Your business does. The domain is registered in your business name and you pay the registrar directly, so it stays yours whatever happens to the plan.

Edits and running the site

What counts as a content edit?

One change to an existing page: new photos in your gallery, a changed service description, an added suburb, updated hours or prices. Up to 5 are included each month.

What if I need more changes than the plan includes?

We tell you the price before doing the work, and nothing is charged unless you agree. New pages, new features or a redesign are outside the plan and priced the same way.

What is in the monthly report?

How many enquiries came in through your website’s form that month, with the date and type of each. Each enquiry is also sent to you as it arrives, so the report is a record rather than the first time you hear about a job.

What happens to my site if I leave?

We stop hosting it at the end of the plan. On request we give you a copy of the content you supplied, and help you point your domain wherever you choose. Our templates and code stay with us.

Google, reviews and results

Will my website rank on Google?

We can’t promise any ranking, traffic or number of enquiries, and nobody honestly can. Google itself says there is no guarantee a site will be indexed, that changes can take from a few hours to several months to show, and that there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. What we do is build pages Google can read, with your services and areas clearly described.

Do you run Google Ads or Facebook ads?

No. Paid advertising and ad spend aren’t part of the plan. If you run ads yourself, the site gives them somewhere clear to send people.

Can the site show my reviews?

Yes, real ones. We can link to your Google reviews and show reviews you have permission to use, word for word. We never write reviews or testimonials for a client, and we won’t show ratings we can’t check.

Do you set up my Google Business Profile?

The profile belongs to you and is managed in your Google account, so you set it up. We link your website and profile together and our blog explains how to set the profile up for a painting business.

The details behind these answers are on pricing, what you get, how it works and the plan terms.
